📝 Understanding the Structure

How the Payment System Works

Three parties are involved in every E-Bike Scheme transaction, each playing a defined role. Understanding this helps you know exactly what you are responsible for.

1

Your Role

Pay a partial down payment upfront, then fixed monthly installments for 24 to 36 months. Keep payments on time and maintain the bike responsibly.

2

Government’s Role

Punjab Government pays the full loan markup (interest) to BOP on your behalf. For students, the government also contributes PKR 20,000 toward your down payment. Teachers receive a 30–40% direct subsidy on the bike’s cost.

3

Bank of Punjab (BOP)

BOP disburses the loan to the dealer, collects your monthly installments, manages insurance, and handles the ownership transfer after your final payment.

4

What This Means for You

The amount shown in the plan is exactly what you pay. No additional markup, service charges, or hidden fees. Registration cost is separate and must be paid to the vehicle registration authority.

Detailed Installment Plans

Understand exactly how down payments, government subsidies, and monthly installments work for each category before you apply.

Plan 1 — Electric Bike Installment
For University & College Students

The most affordable option in the scheme with the highest long-term savings. Available to students whose campuses are in the five Phase 1 cities — Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Bahawalpur — with expansion to more cities expected in Phase 2.

💲 Down Payment Breakdown

The required down payment is 30% of the bike’s price. You do not pay the full 30% yourself. The Government of Punjab contributes a fixed PKR 20,000 toward your down payment, and you pay only the remaining balance.

Example: PKR 1,50,000 Bike
Down payment (30%)PKR 45,000
Govt share (fixed)– PKR 20,000
Your down paymentPKR 25,000
Loan financedPKR 1,05,000
Monthly (24 mo)~PKR 4,375

Monthly (24 mo)~PKR 5,833

🛡 Insurance Included at No Extra Cost

First-year bike insurance is included in your down payment. Second-year insurance is built into the installment plan. Your bike is covered for theft and accidents for the full 2-year repayment period.

Plan 2 — Petrol Bike Installment
For University & College Students

Designed for students who commute longer distances or live in areas where electric charging infrastructure is not yet available. Monthly installments are slightly higher than the electric plan, and ongoing fuel costs must be factored into your total monthly budget.

Maximum bike price coveredPKR 1,50,000
Total down payment required30% of bike price
Government contribution to down paymentPKR 20,000 (fixed)
Your down payment (PKR 1.5L bike)~PKR 25,000
Monthly installment rangePKR 3,000 – 4,000
Repayment duration24 months
Interest / markup rate0% — Government pays in full

⚠ Account for Monthly Fuel Costs

Unlike electric bikes where charging costs are negligible, petrol bikes carry a significant ongoing fuel expense. A 20 km daily commute will cost approximately PKR 3,500/month in fuel. Factor this into your total monthly cost alongside the installment payment.

🏫
Plan 3 — Teacher E-Bike Installment
PTF Scheme — Government School Teachers

The teacher scheme operates differently from student plans. Instead of a fixed PKR 20,000 contribution, teachers receive a direct percentage subsidy of 30% to 40% on the total bike cost. This scheme is administered independently through the Punjab Teachers Foundation (PTF).

Average e-bike pricePKR 2,00,000 – 2,50,000
Government subsidy30–40% of total price
Amount you pay60–70% of total price
Monthly installment rangePKR 3,600 – 4,200
Repayment duration2–3 years (24–36 months)

  • Higher subsidy percentage: Teachers save PKR 60,000 to PKR 1,00,000 through the direct subsidy — significantly more than the student scheme.
  • Extended repayment option: Teachers can opt for 36-month repayment for lower monthly payments.
  • Manufacturer service warranty: Includes a 1-year complimentary service warranty from the manufacturer.
  • Battery maintenance support: Provisions for subsidized battery maintenance during the ownership period.

📚 Important Rules

Key Payment Rules You Must Know

Before signing the loan agreement with the Bank of Punjab, understand these critical terms that govern your repayment obligations.

How to Apply

Can You Repay Early?

Yes. If you come into funds and want to settle the loan before the 24 or 36-month period ends, you may do so by visiting your nearest Bank of Punjab branch. There is no penalty for early repayment. Contact BOP or the scheme helpline at 042-111-333-267 to arrange a lump-sum settlement.

What Happens If You Miss a Payment?

For students and teachers: Missing a monthly payment generates a BOP reminder. Continued non-payment can result in the bike being repossessed. It also creates a negative entry in your ECIB credit report, affecting your ability to obtain any future bank loan, credit card, or financial product. It may also disqualify you from future government welfare programs.

For government employees: Since payments are deducted directly from salary, missed payments are virtually eliminated. However, if you leave government service before completing installments, the remaining balance becomes due immediately.

Pro tip: If you face genuine financial hardship and cannot make a payment, contact BOP proactively rather than simply missing it. Banks can sometimes restructure schedules in documented hardship cases.

Bike Registration Cost — Not Included

This detail catches many recipients off guard. The bike’s registration with the vehicle registration authority is not included in the installment plan or down payment. You must register the bike separately at your own expense after taking delivery. Registration fees in Punjab typically range from PKR 2,000 to PKR 5,000 depending on district and vehicle type.

Ownership Transfer — When Is the Bike Legally Yours?

During the installment period, the bike is registered in the name of the Bank of Punjab or Government of Punjab. You possess and use the bike, but legal ownership belongs to the financing entity. After your final installment payment, full ownership transfers to your name and BOP issues a transfer letter for updating the registration.

Until ownership transfers, you cannot:

  • Sell the bike or transfer it to another person
  • Use the bike as collateral for another loan
  • Make major modifications that alter the bike’s registered identity

What If the Bike Gets Stolen or Damaged?

Your bike is insured throughout the repayment period — first-year insurance is covered in the down payment and second-year insurance is included in the installments. If stolen: File an FIR immediately and report to BOP. The insurance claim process will be initiated by the bank. If damaged in an accident: Minor repairs are your responsibility. Major damage or total loss triggers an insurance claim. After the installment period ends and insurance expires, renewal is your own responsibility.

❓ Common Questions

Installment FAQs

Answers to the most frequently asked questions about the CM Punjab E-Bike Scheme 2026 installment structure.

Your monthly installment amount does not change regardless of fuel price movements. The installment is a fixed loan repayment agreed at the time of bike delivery.

However, if you chose a petrol bike, your monthly fuel cost will increase as petrol prices rise. This is one of the key advantages of the electric bike option — your charging cost remains nearly constant regardless of fuel market fluctuations.

Yes. You can make advance payments at any time by visiting your BOP branch. There is no penalty or restriction on paying ahead of schedule. Some applicants prefer quarterly payments — BOP accommodates this arrangement.

Yes. The monthly installment amount is locked at the time of bike delivery and does not change for the entire 24 or 36-month period. There are no variable rates, no inflation adjustments, and no surprise increases.

Your installment obligation continues regardless of your academic status. The loan is a financial agreement between you and BOP — it is not linked to your continued enrollment. Even if you drop out, transfer to another institution, or graduate early, your monthly payments remain due until the full amount is settled.

No. You must select from the models available in the official catalogue on the government portal at the time of application. You cannot pay extra to get a bike that exceeds the maximum financing limit. If you want a higher-specification model, it must fall within the scheme’s price cap.

No. If you can afford to pay the full amount upfront (after deducting the government subsidy), you may do so without any penalty. Contact BOP at the time of bike delivery to make the necessary arrangements for a one-time full settlement.
